In today’s fast-paced society, waiting can be frustrating. This is especially true with dental restorations; no one wants weeks to pass before their crowns are manufactured, wearing an uncomfortable temporary crown or having an empty space in their mouth in the meantime. Nashua, New Hampshire cosmetic dentist, has made the entire process easier for his patients by relying on CEREC technology. Learn about it here:
What does CEREC mean?
CEREC is an acronym standing for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It describes a way that dentists can design and fit dental crowns for their patients in just one appointment by using CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacturing) technology.
How are crowns made by a CEREC machine?
Your Nashua dentist will first take digital pictures of your mouth, in particular the space in which the crown will be placed. This ensures a proper fit when the images are sent to a computer, where the crown is designed on a specialized program and then transferred to the manufacturing unit. While you wait, your crown is carved out of a block of ceramic in 15 minutes or less! Your Nashua cosmetic dentist finishes it off by polishing the restoration. You’re then fitted with a long-lasting, high-quality crown in the time it takes for an average lunch break.
Is CEREC a new technology?
While dental technology is always adapting to changes, the technology for CEREC has been around since the 1980’s when it was invented in Switzerland. As of October 2013, almost 40,000 dentists use CEREC worldwide.
With proper care, restorations made with CEREC technology can last well over two decades. If you’re in need of a dental restoration and don’t want to wait any longer, contact Nashua dental office today to schedule a consultation.
